# Nightjar

> Real-time intelligence for the world's remote landscapes. TrailGuard edge-AI cameras feed the Nightjar IQ platform — turning every triggered image into species, scene, and signal.

Nightjar is a Washington DC-based company that grew out of the Conservation Solutions program at RESOLVE. We started by building a camera trap that could catch poachers in real time. We're now building the platform that makes a landscape report on itself — continuous, structured environmental intelligence from the most remote places on Earth.

TrailGuard is the sensor. Nightjar IQ is the platform. Together they are used by conservation organisations, state wildlife agencies, peacekeeping forces, industrial operators, and research teams across multiple continents.

## What we make

- **TrailGuard.** Edge-AI camera with cellular connectivity, IP67 housing, and months of battery life on a single charge. Built for the places nothing else reaches. Real-time alerts via the Nightjar IQ platform.
- **Nightjar IQ.** Multi-tenant platform for real-time alerts, fleet management, configurable detection rules, and continuous environmental data. Browser-based, API-ready, integrates with partner systems including EarthRanger.

## What we do

- **Real-time alerts.** Wildlife, vehicles, people, intrusion, gunshots (in development) — delivered within seconds of a trigger via the dashboard, Telegram, or email.
- **Continuous landscape data.** Every image carries scene-level metadata: weather, vegetation, hydrology, habitat. Over time, each camera becomes a per-site time series.
- **Fleet operations.** Live battery, signal, and health across every deployed camera. Over-the-air firmware. Bulk data ingestion.
- **Integration and export.** API, webhooks, EarthRanger compatibility, Telegram alerts, bulk CSV and GBIF export.

## Where we work

- **Anti-poaching and wildlife crime.** Real-time detection of incursions, vehicles, and people in protected areas.
- **Human-wildlife conflict.** Alerts on elephants approaching villages, predators near livestock, before harm is done.
- **Industrial and mining.** Continuous biodiversity and habitat evidence for IFC Performance Standard 6, EU directives, and corporate reporting.
- **Security and remote infrastructure.** Trail, fence, and access-point monitoring across landscapes too large for traditional security.
- **Conservation research.** Species presence, behaviour, and ecosystem change at landscape scale, including phenology and per-site environmental time series.

## How we think about what we do

A camera trap is a machine built around throwing things away. It sits on a tree for months and takes tens of thousands of pictures, and almost every one is of nothing: wind in the grass, a branch, an empty trail at three in the morning. The whole device exists to find the few frames with an animal or person or vehicle and discard the rest.

We started to think the empty frames were the point. A place is never really empty. The trail at three in the morning is telling you something about the season, the water, the grass, who passed yesterday and didn't today. Turn that around and the camera stops being a device that catches things and becomes a sensor that watches a landscape change. Network many of them and the landscape begins to keep its own record.

That is the company. We make landscapes report on themselves, from the ground up.
